Electrical Automation Engineer

The Electrical Automation Engineer will lead the design, development, and testing of electrical control systems for food packaging equipment and machinery. This individual is responsible for the electrical design, PLC and Motion Control programming, testing, and debugging of equipment prior to shipment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the PLC and Motion Control programming, testing, and debugging of equipment.
  • Design and layout electrical systems including power distribution, I/O devices, and sensors.
  • Test and de-bug machines prior to shipment to ensure peak performance.
  • Complete final commissioning checklists for all machines.
  • Support new or problem installations and provide Tier 3 Technical Support for the service department.
  • Assist the Service Team with remote troubleshooting support.
  • Assist the Materials Team with electrical component questions and support.
  • Maintain complete and accurate engineering documentation of all projects (scope of work, meeting notes, customer correspondence, etc.).
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make suggestions for change.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or a comparable technical degree in electrical, automation, or controls engineering.
  • Proven experience with electrical cabinet design and electrical component selection.
  • Proficiency with Motion Control devices including A/B, Danaher, and Copley stepper/servo motors and drives.
  • Strong understanding of domestic and international electrical codes (NEC, NFPA79, IEC60204-1).
  • Solid understanding of mechanics and basic hands-on troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with ERP, CAD, and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Ability to summarize information and communicate effectively via email, phone calls, and face-to-face visits.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and some internationally.
